Duke Bare looking for number 4 at Bristol
By Shane Tader Green
Duke Bare has raced in almost everything and almost everywhere. From Tennessee to Virginia to North Carolina to South Carolina and even to Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway’s in the Polar Bear 150, where he started 58th and finished 15th.
Bare races on dirt, concrete, asphalt and pretty much anywhere else that has race cars going in circles. Bare also has 3 wins at Bristol Motor Speedway in four starts – two in Street stock and one in Mod 4. Two of those wins came in the same day on 2011. This year, Bare is eyeing a return to Bristol in the Short Track U.S. Nationals and he’s looking for win No. 4.
Duke races full time on the concrete at Kingsport (Tenn.) Speedway on Friday nights and a lot of the time on dirt at Wythe (Va.) Raceway. You can also find the veteran racer at Lonesome Pine (Va.) Raceway, working on other people’s race cars, being a crew chief, or whatever else comes his way.
Bare is a racer through and through and he’ll race anything, anywhere. Bare is always one of the nicest guys at the track but also one of the toughest to beat.
Bare’s return to Bristol will be in the Street Stock division with the feature race scheduled for Saturday night, May 20.
