Ronnie McCarty makes first Martinsville trip
Ronnie McCarty has been one of the top contenders at Kingsport speedway, only finishing outside the top ten twice this season. Last season wasn’t the greatest season for Ronnie as he had to miss 5 races, but still finished the season 7th in points. Last season he had 2 wins and 11 top 5s in just 13 starts. He is a two-time NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car champion at Kingsport Speedway, along with being 2015 Tennessee NWAAS State Champion. Ronnie will be making his first appearance at Martinsville Speedway this weekend.
The 30 year old driver says it will be a challenge because he hasn’t raced on high-end shocks since competing in the UARA Series 4-5 years ago. The team was happy with the test session, running 20.70s on old tires and feel they have found at least 2 or 3 tenths that should get them closer. Ronnie says the only thing that might hold him back is a recent back injury and is worried his back might not hold up. He says they will try Friday in the hot laps and find out how his back will do.
I’ve personally seen Ronnie race for about 4 years, since I started going to Kingsport. He has one of the top teams and I think he can handle about anything during his first trip to Martinsville. The Valley Star Credit Union is one of the hardest races to make, some drivers have been trying for years, but have been unsuccessful. I think this team is capable of shocking the late model world in this upcoming event.
